Stem Cells

Stem Cell Types

We use adult stem cells for all our treatments. The choice of stem cell type depends on the patient’s condition and other factors. Each cell type has its own properties. Your physician-in-charge will explain what stem cell types are recommended for you.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC)

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have the potential of self-renewal and multilineage differentiation, therefore they have great healing capacity.Currently we isolate MSC from bone marrow (BM) and umbilical cord tissues (UC).

MSC Derived from Autologous Bone Marrow

BM contains relatively less stem cells than umbilical cord blood; however, an advantage is autologous BM stem cells are the safest and most active cells since they are used fresh and have not been stored in liquid nitrogen.

MSC Derived from Umbilical Cord

MSC Derived from Umbilical Cord are accessible and painless procedures to donors, in addition they have a low risk of viral contamination.

Laboratory

Our Stem Cell Resource Laboratory

Facility

The General Hospital of Chinese People’s Armed Police Forces officially opened its new stem cell resource laboratory in October, 2009. It is located in the embassy area of central Beijing.

The laboratory houses 3 Mill. USD worth of laboratory equipment from world-class suppliers like Thermo Scientific, Thermo Fischer, Corning, Sanyo and Heraeus Kulzer.

People

The lab hires 15 experienced professionals. The team includes biologists, medical doctors, pharmacologists, and technicians in charge of the daily operations of the lab.

Stem Cell Processing

1. Collection and Preparation

We pay utmost care and special attention on stem cell collection and preparation due to their extremely sensitive nature. When working with fresh autologous cells, or stored donor cells we handle the cells with well-timed precision in order to preserve viability. Donor cells are rigorously tested for transmissible diseases like HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, TB, Syphilis, etc. before further processing them.

2. Purification & Culture

Stem Cell Purification in Progress

The purification process is performed in consistence with industry standard protocols to avoid variables. At each step of the process we record all the variables of each and every sample. Our cell lines are cultured under tightly controlled nutrient and environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity and oxygen levels. Lab area is always maintained sterile and contaminant-free.

3. Storage and Transport

Our proprietary system guarantees precise tracking of samples. Our storage and transport facility ensure to maintain cell viability and security.

Quality & Safety

Along with provision of excellent medical care, our hospital implements the highest level procedures for ensuring quality control and safety. We consistently deliver the highest quality and safest medical care and pride ourselves on our patient-centered approach. Our treatment protocols are continually refined and are based on the latest medical research.

Please check the 3 steps that we are taking to provide you with safe, high-quality medical care.

1. Keeping You Safe

Strictly controlled laboratory procedures

Our laboratory has implemented a strict quality control system. The purity of cells are carefully checked, and implanted cells are always double checked for transmissible diseases like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Syphilis, etc .

Applying the latest research and technologies

Our team takes advantage of the latest technological advancements in order to improve our medical testing and performance as well as to minimize the potential for medical errors.

2. Delivering You Effectiveness & Quality

Choosing the right candidates

The effectiveness of any treatment depends greatly on the patient condition. Our experienced medical doctors assess all patients to determine whether they will benefit from the treatment. Determining the best candidates for treatment is critical.

Custom-tailored treatment plans

Different clinical conditions require different treatment plans, and our doctors design treatment plans for each patient based on their individual needs and requirements. These include details such as the source of stem cells used as well as the method and times of transplantation and rehabilitation.

3. Listening to You

Clear and concise communication

Our hospital believes that effective communication is an essential part of treatment. Therefore, we provide face-to-face medical meetings so you may discuss your ideas, concerns, and plans, as well as ask questions to the doctor in charge of your treatment.

Medical culture at the Wujing General Hospital

We stress on a patient-centered approach. Our international patients appreciate the warmth of our medical staff and find our doctors and nurses to be professional, responsible, and caring.

Typical Treatment Schedule

Day 1

Arrival.

One of our service personnel will pick you up at the Beijing Capital Airport and bring you to the hospital or your hotel. This person will assist you with the hospital registration.

Days 2 and 3

Meet your physician.

This person will be in charge of your treatment regimen, including managing your examinations, tests, medications, treatments and will also coordinate with your nurses, rehabilitation, and service personnel.

Neurological examination.

Your physician will take your medical history, ask you some questions, examine your cranial nerve function, motor function, coordination and gait, reflexes, and sensory function. He or she may record a video of your movements.

Initial tests.

This is done in order to check your condition and confirm your eligibility for treatment. The initial test is managed according to your particular needs. It may contain the following tests: routine blood tests, urine tests, ECG, abdominal ultrasound, chest x-ray, and MRI or CT scan.

Final treatment plan.

Your neurologist will plan and discuss your final treatment plan with you. He or she will schedule the transplantation days. Lumbar punctures and IV injections typically take place at 2 pm. You will be informed ahead of time of any changes in the schedule.

Day 4

You will receive your first transplantation. There is a 3–5 day break between transplantations. Should you have fever, or any unexpected symptoms, please report these immediately to the doctor on duty. After the lumbar puncture, you will be monitored and you must lie flat in your bed without a pillow for 4–6 hours. You may move your limbs, but drinking and eating are not allowed. After this duration, you may get up and move around.

Day 5 – 14

You will receive the remainder of your transplantations.

Day 15

You will meet your neurologist and receive your discharge report and invoice. You will then be driven back to the airport to catch your flight.

Note: After your application, our doctor will contact you to discuss your treatment date and will give you details of the initial treatment plan. At this stage, the doctor will suggest various methods that may be used, indicate the number of transplantations that may be needed, and identify the source of stem cells. Your final treatment plan is formulated in Beijing after the results of all the tests are completed.
